Different Energy Sources

Different energy sources supply us with the energy we require to live and work. Geothermal, solar, wind and biomass are some of the sources. In addition to being a major source of electricity, these sources can also be used to transport and heating. These energy sources emit greenhouse gases when they are burned to produce electricity. This creates the need for more sustainable sources of energy.

The most popular type of energy is fossil fuels, comprised of coal oil, natural gas. They were created thousands of years ago when prehistoric animals and plants died and were buried under layers of sedimentary rocks. In the right conditions they were gradually transformed into carbon-rich substances that, when burned create energy. These fossil fuels are non-renewable since they will be exhausted in our lifetimes or in many lifetimes.

Renewable energy sources are, however, are continually replenished. The most important renewable energy source is sunlight, which gives light and heat. We utilize it for our homes vehicles, businesses, and homes. Wind is another renewable energy source that generates electricity through spinning turbines. Since the first people discovered how to harness wind we have been utilizing it for millennia. We also use biological processes to make ethanol (a clear alcohol that can be used to create fuel) from waste and crops.

Hydropower is the most important renewable energy source in America, however wind and biofuels will soon overtake it. Hydropower is a natural cycle to harness the water’s rapid flow, which in turn is used to produce electricity.
